While there is a far cry from the Penn State tragedy and the "agreement" that Herman Cain is dancing around, there does seem to be the thread of "market forces".

I should note, that like Cain, in some respects I blame the media. But we must not shoot the messenger. Nor necessarily "blame yourselves" for not having all the horrific D-tales. i.e. I don't think the severity of the details came to light immediately. Even though events have occurred over a broader spectrum of time [!]

I had a better punchline but a call intersected my thought process, regarding the media cacophony regarding a recent tragedy.

Get Over It! Was the cry that I lost and we may be better for it, but local reaction as well, is overblown. That line may return to me or be better lost, but the carton* and the shock are part of freedom of the press, and the surprise should be moderated by this intersection:

Whining to Win.

First it was about the economy and from a McCain advisor, then it was about the media. Actually quite a bit transpired in between. But the image thing, composite or not, should be compared to The Dean Scream. Actually I am not attributing Deans loss to his scream, but it was a turning point and cover for the media turning. While the light that McCain is cast in, should be examined more carefully, not to mention Palin.

As misinforming as the position Pro-Life is, maybe a better bumper sticker would be Pro-Baby. Whining begins at conception.

The bubble containment dilemma*: leveraged capital flow, ability to get around** boundaries and rules. My aside: Bailouts are not stimulus, and stimulus are not bailouts. The problem and the solution are at the vertex of the three in politics and governance. Finance reform recognizes the role of governments in creating a system(market rules) that balances consumption and "creative destruction". The Godzillas are the metaphor for the responsibility that is avioded by not taking on the responsibility and blaming the market. Rollover of debt to public debt, crisis of reserve currency and international monetary system. Segue: BO-OB Barack Obama -Optimism Bias Extra Credit: Debt is not just about borrowing, it is about not paying for it. All bailouts and stimulus, not being equal, let alone at all similar, they are not all bad. Something somewhere has got to give. It is not all about free markets and free trade, but providing a system that does not just take, whether it is freedom, labor or resources.

This is probably the most important piece of the failed course that will not change. It not only rules out opposing views but limits the number of available skilled staff for an administration with little faith in the government serving the people. Then it also penalizes even those in the same party with open minds that see things differently. It should be no wonder that failure is so frequent and change is so difficult. Even those with merit that chose to keep giving their input will have no effect without the administration being willing to change and risk further exposure of their failures.

As George Lakoff, points out in the book, Don't think of an Elephant Know your values, Frame the debate there are a pair of parental metaphors Strict Father vs. Nurturing Parent and I earlier joked it was about the "Golden Rule", or rather the rule vs. the joke,(Those with...etc.). However there is a much simpler and more familiar way of putting it that explains the philosophy which is behind this all. "Do as I say, not as I do." Sadly the reaction to the reality that is in the results is also familiar to the strict father metaphor. "I'll give you something to cry about."


A second point, (not necessarily in order in the article)and I have not read beyond a few words in a few paragraphs, is probably the goal of privatization of government. It sounds good, but in reality it is a double edged sword that is not even half good. The two sides are either, you are on your own, and corporations will take care of what matters. It should simply be remembered that "privatization" is really "corporatization". Not that corporations are a bad thing, only that too much freedom is as much a concern for corporations as to individuals, for none of us would fair well on our own, even the ones that are trickling down.

Paraphrasing President Bush: the troops deserve unwavering commitment to the mission and a clear strategy for victory.

My comment: These are both fine, but out of order and missing much more. The commitment to the mission should come after a clear strategy which cannot come before the recognition of facts as well as the reality of cause and effect.

Given the emphasis on repeating propaganda and forcing not balancing wills, not to mention the fog of accountability that is the chain of command, we are a far cry from the troops getting the commitment they deserve which should come in more than just words. Words that if you look at them are more about the mission than the troops. And are more about words than actual support for the troops.

It seems a vicious cycle which of course should end, but they in so many of their own words recognize it will not. Noting this, the only answer is for the vicious cycle to return to the "hard work" cycle that others were doing before the vicious cycle thinkers took charge. Given their choice that others will do the hard work, we would think they should agree that others take the cycle back to better support the troops, let alone the people.

Thinking Right In Name Only?

We must call it Hi-Johning the Truth. I would call it Hijacking the truth, but what with homeland security and all that terrorism, it may be too scary a rallying cry. Now I may need to give thanks to the right subliminally for the John reference but it really surfaced in my mind as the more formal name for Jack, not the two Johns that they think they flushed.

In the search for a new face to put on our fight or indeed a party, I thought mainly of enthroning the truth as an aim, rather than letting it go down the drain.

[Hint: I may be caught up, but this is just a few words I may link something to later. It may be too obtuse or seeminginly tongue in cheek, but the point may hold water.]

FRANKNESS: SERVING US ALL? Right.

Contribution to a new level of discourse or d’Nile. (Sent to local paper, 6-29-04, Unedited, aside from the appropriate changes in connection with the additions in italics.)

Maureen Dowd sure hit the nail on the head in "Is Cheney losing it?" and I would like to tack on a few of my own. Aside from wondering if Cheney ever really had it, as the media should know he was not one for mincing words during the campaign. The candidate Bush even concurred with his ticket-mate’s aphorism for a member of the press. That is the irony that un-minced words should get out of this administration.

After all, the president did call for Hollywood to come up with some scenarios and solutions after 9-11. He just didn’t know, read or remember the works of the creative thinkers in his administration from the neo-con philosophers to the Secretary of Infotainment Rumsfeld who said "facts change". And for the obtuse I am not equating defense with entertainment, but only in regards to his dissemination of information duties. Then there are the history "rewriters" which they eschew but now employ memo rewriters before it is determined who read or followed them or how they fit in the chain of command. From the Cheney Energy Panel or rather the "X-Files" motto that "the truth is out there" to the "Twilight Zone’s" episode "To Serve Man", Cheney has now contributed to the language of unity, not to mention great debates.

And thanks to Maureen Dowd we should remember a useful "F" word (or few words)and when disturbed cry "FOX NEWS". Then we can finally let the French off the hook. Now those who are embarrassed after a personal faux pas or outburst can just say, "Pardon my Cheney". However, for those who are proud of their verbal and debating skills, it is just about time someone let the facts slip.

I don’t know if that means we found the leak in the ship of fools or the paddle that got us up the creek. But we can probably agree it is not all down hill from here. We just may not agree on the continual trickle or flood of denial.

You may recall that congress changed the name of French fries to "freedom fries" in their cafeteria over their lack of agreement in the United Nations. Now Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee is trying to change them back, while some Republicans are more likely to add France to the “Axis of Evil” for their continued insistence on bringing Democracy to Iraq sooner rather than later, if ever. So the rally cry should be. “Stop the Lies, Change the Fries”.
